Wall-mounted handrails: Strong and sturdy for all the family

Wall-mounted handrails: Strong and sturdy for all the family

Handrails aren’t just for show. With countless styles available, you can make sure whichever handrail you choose fits perfectly with your staircase and home environment. Modern, traditional, ornate, wood, iron, steel, painted, varnished; the choice is yours.

But they’re also there to keep you safe and secure.

Anyone can trip, slip, and fall. Having a strong, sturdy handrail there to hold onto or grab when you need it is vital.

According to official figures, the home is the most common location for an accident to happen. Figures also tell us that in the UK, we spend 60% of public funding for healthcare on cure and rehabilitation, and only 5% on prevention.

Understandably, the most likely people affected are those aged 65 and over. Around a third of people aged 65 and older, and around half of people aged 80 and over, fall at least once a year. Falls are estimated to cost the NHS more than £2.3 billion per year.

Changes to our homes can help us to continue to live independently and well – and can save the NHS and wider care sector millions of pounds each year.

Mounting a handrail directly to the wall, as opposed to on top of a bannister, will give your home an added element of safety and security. And our wall-mounted handrails look just as stylish – or even more so.

wall mounted metal handrails

Available in all types of styles and materials, there are 3 kinds of wall-mounted handrails: ‘pig’s ear handrails’,  ‘mopstick handrails’ and 'metal handrails'.

Pig’s ear handrails are a popular choice and can be secured directly to the wall without the need for any brackets. They also sit close to the wall, making them the ideal choice for narrow staircases. Tapered wooden pellets known as cross grain pellets can also be used to fill the holes drilled into the handrail to fasten the handrail to the wall.

Mopstick handrails are the more decorative choice of handrail as they are secured to the wall by handrail brackets. For a stylish finish, end caps can also be added.

Keeping your family safe doesn’t have to come at the cost of style. Check out the different types of wall-mounted handrails we have available.
